The short version
- Your books are yours. You can take them with you, and you can close your account at any time.
- Beans does the bookkeeping and asks you when it isn't sure. You check what it asks, and you approve each BAS before it's lodged.
- What's lodged with the ATO is your responsibility, as it would be with any bookkeeper.
- Beans is in early access, so it will change. We'll tell you before anything that affects you does.
What Beans does
Beans keeps the books for the entities you add: a company, a trust, a partnership, a sole trader or your personal finances. It records what comes in from your bank feeds, the statements you import and the receipts you send it, asks you when it isn't sure, and prepares each entity's BAS from the books.
Your account
You sign in with Apple, Google or a code sent to your email. Keep the way you sign in to yourself, and tell us at hello@heybeans.com if you think someone else has used it. You're responsible for what's done in your books while you're signed in.
People you invite
You can invite others to your books, such as a partner or your accountant, and choose what each can do. You're responsible for who you invite, and you can remove anyone at any time.
Your books are yours
Everything in your books belongs to you. We use it only to keep your books and to run Beans, never to sell or to advertise. You can download your records at any time. How we handle personal information is in our privacy notice.
Tax and the ATO
Beans prepares your BAS from your books and shows you every figure before anything is lodged. Lodging with the ATO happens only when you say so, and you can lodge it yourself instead. Beans isn't a registered tax agent and doesn't give tax advice: for advice on your situation, ask your accountant.
Bank connections
A bank feed only reads your transactions. Beans can't move money, pay anyone or change anything at your bank. You can disconnect a feed at any time.
Early access
Beans is new and is being built in the open. Features will change, and some will come and go while we learn what works. We'll tell you before a change that affects your books.
Closing your account
You can close your account at any time by writing to hello@heybeans.com. Before you do, download what you want to keep. After you close it, we delete your books, except anything the law requires us to keep.
Our responsibility
We work hard to keep your books right, but check what Beans records before you rely on it, especially before a BAS is lodged. Nothing in these terms takes away your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we'll update them here and tell you by email before the change takes effect.
